The large number of companies now offering decorative concrete can prompt one to ask the question "How do I choose one contractor over another?" Deciding on a contractor can be a daunting task.

When picking a contractor, many customers base their decision solely on price. In so doing, they do themselves a tremendous disservice. Any contractor can underbid another in order to secure a job, but what is the customer really getting for less money? Too often the answers are inferior materials, poor craftsmanship, weak concrete, and a disastrous outcome. A fly-by-night contractor may be cutting corners by using unskilled labor, avoiding taxes, or not carrying insurance.

The recent popularity of decorative concrete has convinced many new contractors to jump into the market, usually after attending a one or two day training seminar or certification class. Unfortunately, the learning curve for producing quality decorative concrete is a long one. Our craft cannot be learned in a day or even weeks. A contractor who has only recently gotten into the industry cannot hope to produce the same quality work as a highly experienced one.

Likewise, even though a particular company has been in business for awhile, doesn't necessarily mean that their installation personnel are experienced. Many concrete workers change employers frequently. Therefore, the most qualified man on the job may have less than a year of experience! The here today, gone tomorrow nature of some crews can foster a lack of concern for the quality and longevity of the completed installation. They simply have no long-term stake in the project, and might not really care if it falls apart in a couple of years.

For almost 20 years, since the company's inception in the early 1990s, each job has been personally installed by Steve VandeWater and Elbert Vandevender, the company's owners. They bid, prep, and install every project, so you'll see them on your jobsite from start to finish. Their unique combination of experience and personal accountability make ArtistiCrete's work stand clearly above the rest.
