Why Dont We Precast Counter Tops and Bar Tops?

Some companies precast their tops upside-down and install them later. At ArtistiCrete, that's rarely how it's done. We typically form, pour, and finish the countertop in place; that is, on top of the already installed cabinetry or millwork. We do this to provide a seamless surface that fits precisely into the space. Some tops are simply too large to transport and install in one piece (see photo below or see other photos), and some irregularly shaped jobsites present measurement difficulties. Therefore when installed, precast countertops may not always fit like they should and may contain unsightly seams between sections.

ArtistiCrete's tops usually exhibit a more rustic, handcrafted appearance than do precast tops which can sometimes look manufactured. This is because we actually hand-trowel the concrete. If a customer wants an elegant, perfect surface he should choose granite, Corian, or another hard surface. We feel that when someone wants a concrete countertop, it's usually because they desire something unique. This seems evident because the cost of concrete countertops are equal to or even greater than granite.
